When I traveled to the fascinating cultural country of Cambodia I went to three different memorable venues. However my favourite would have been one of the biggest religious temples in the world, the famous Angkor Wat. It is located on the outskirts of the ancient city of Angkor which is right next to the town of Siem Reap, where my hotel is located. To get to the thrilling Angkor Wat from the old fashioned Shining Angkor Boutique Hotel you only have to be in your rental car for ten short minutes.

The popular Angkor Wat temple was built roughly between 1113 and 1150 A.D by King Suryavarman the 2nd as a Hindu religious temple. This breathtaking temple has lots of exquisite carvings but the most spectacular one is the face of Angkor Thom who is an old Cambodian god. This unforgettable statue is made of decaying concrete and is about 5 meters high.
This mind blowing temple’s most towering point is 65 metres high. The enormous structure has crumbling concrete walls draped with green shiny ivy and damp spongy moss. There are four spiral towers that are spaced out on the weathered roof.
I drove into the dusty parking area and stared up at the historical Hindu temple. I then walked up to the ticket counter and handed in my tickets to a friendly woman who told me some crucial information about the temple.

I went through a few more battered passages and rooms before getting to my favourite place of all. There was green shrubbery growing on the wall and light fell warmly on my back from the collapsed roof. The walls were falling down and roots from weedy plants littered the cracked floor. I tore my eyes away from the extraordinary area and jogged through some more entrance ways and then examined several more rooms.

I finally found my way out of the newsworthy temple and decided to call it a day after I realised that I had been there for more than six hours. I slowly drove back to the grand hotel while thinking about the my exhilarating temple visit.
I bought my tickets on the appealing website Booking.Com for a affordable price of $49.05 NZD. So if you want to visit the best venues in Cambodia call Asian Cove today.
